PEKKA PELJO (FINLAND)

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, UNIVERSITY OF TURKU

Associate professor Pekka Peljo received his MSc (Master of Science in Engineering) at Helsinki University of Technology in 2009. He continued with Ph.D. (D.Sc. in Technology) at Aalto University in 2013 and spent 5 years as a scientist at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland.

In 2018 he returned to Finland as an Academy Research Fellow to start his research group. In autumn 2020 he moved his research group to the University of Turku to start as an associate professor in materials engineering. He heads the Research group of Battery Materials and Technologies, one of the largest research groups (ca. 12 people) in Europe, focusing on stationary energy storage with flow batteries.

“No good solutions to energy storage exist yet, different systems are needed for different applications.”

At SHIFT Pekka will talk about how energy storage is required to realize a green transformation in electricity production.
