Edward Anderson

Senior Technology and Resilience Specialist, World Bank Group

Edward Anderson is the Senior Technology and Resilience Specialist for the World Bank based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Edward participates in the EU’s Drones in Humanitarian Action Expert Working Group and holds Master’s degrees in both aerospace engineering and international economics and international relations.

His focus is on the nexus of urbanization and climate risks and leveraging emerging imaging and mobility technologies for greater resilience in African economies. This includes the African Drone Forum – a multi-country platform to accelerate the deployment of safe, equitable, and pro-poor autonomous services in rural and urban settings. Other programs include the Resilience Academy, which builds local skills and services adopting satellite, internet of things, community feedback, and UAS monitoring technologies to address unplanned urbanization in Africa.

At SHIFT 2020, Edward will discuss resilience through digitization and data. It is said that ‘data is the new gold’ and satellite data offers many more opportunities for business and positive impact creation than so far utilized.

SHIFT’s climate partner Chooose has agreed to offset the speaker’s CO2 emissions for six months, including their participation to SHIFT 2020.
