Nick Bostrom, the leader of Future of Humanity Institute at the Oxford University gave his keynote to a full house at SHIFT Business Festival on Tuesday afternoon. Bostrom has been called a doomsday futurist and is known mainly about fairly pessimistic future scenarios.
On stage at SHIFT he admitted his 2014 book Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies might have been a bit gloomy, but assured that he is actually quite optimistic about the future – as long as we do our best to work together in an open sharing culture to develop Artificial Intelligence further. He emphasizes that cooperation must start immediately, and remarks that it also might be already too late…
